Màiri Mhòr nan Òran (Big Mary of the Songs) Mary MacPherson was born in Skye but moved to Inverness to work. She was wrongfully imprisoned in her 50s and this was the catalyst for an incredible outpouring of music, song and poetry. She became a leading light in the struggle for land reform and the preservation of Gaelic language and culture. She is buried across the road from the bar.
